5 Elon Musk Quotes: Life Advice for all Entrepreneurs

Elon Musk Quotes

Ranked 34th richest person in America, Elon Musk has got some really cool quotes to show that the path to success lies through both failures and victories.

As you may probably know, Musk is the founder of SpaceX, chief product architect of Tesla Motors, chairman of SolarCity and co-founder of Paypal. He is a billionaire, inventor, entrepreneur, engineer, and an innovator.

Do you think his way to success was smooth and shiny? Of course, not! One of the greatest virtues of this man is that he never gives up. No one should ever give up.

1. “Failure is an option here. If things are not failing, you are not innovating enough.” Elon Musk

Actually, Musk has experienced quite a few serious failures in his life. For example, he has suffered a lot of bullying as a child. Musk was not so sociable, he was a little nerd buried in his books. This might have caused other students the desire to mock him.

You think you are a failure because you were not able to get a job in a company you wanted? Well, Musk has undergone such an experience too. Once, he applied for a job in Netscape which was one of the leading tech companies at that period. But he did not get any reply from them. And he was too shy to follow up with a conversation or a visit. And maybe this was the reason why Musk decided to launch his own business.

2. “Persistence is very important. You should not give up unless you are forced to give up.” Elon Musk

So, there came the era of Zip2, a company that Musk founded along with his brother using $28,000 that their father had given them. Zip2 was developing online city guides for newspaper publishers. It got contracts with major players in the industry including The New York Times. However, there was tension within the company. Musk wanted to be CEO, but the Board of Directors did not let him take the position. They decided that Musk was not experienced enough for the position. Later on, they sold Zip2 to Compaq. And Musk got his share of $22 million out of the deal.

3. “The path to the CEO’s office should not be through the CFO’s office, and it should not be through the marketing department. It needs to be through engineering and design.” Elon Musk

He then started another project X.com, an online-payment company. Later on, it purchased Confinity which had its own money-transfer service PayPal. Of course, this service became the most crucial element of the company. Soon, X.com was renamed PayPal. Here, again, Musk got some issues with the then CTO. He was removed from the position of CEO and PayPal was sold to eBay. Do you think Musk would give up? Of course, not!

Prior to closing the PayPal sale, Musk started dreaming about a small greenhouse that he could land on Mars. He took a trip to Moscow to purchase Soviet Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles that could be refitted to his goals. However, the Russians did not seem to take him seriously.

4. “When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor.” Elon Musk

In 2002, Musk tried again, but this time Russian aerospace companies asked for too much money for their rockets. And Musk moved on. He started building his own rockets from scratch (by launching SpaceX in 2002).

Sometimes, Musk would invest into the craziest projects. It’s his belief in the possibility of changing the world that drives him toward great deeds.

5. “I don’t create companies for the sake of creating companies, but to get things done.” Elon Musk

Final notes

Elon Musk is effectively managing several companies regardless of how many failures he has had during his career. He is passionate about whatever he does, and maybe this makes him that successful. Musk continues to invest in the future. What about you?
